Americans With Disabilities Act

SMCIL offers services to facilitate implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) throughout the state including ADA training, technical assistance and materials to businesses and persons with disabilities on the requirements and options of the ADA.

We offer advocacy services with the intent of facilitating cooperative compliance. SMCIL provides ADA counseling on larger projects such as facility surveys and job accommodations.

SMCIL provides advocacy on behalf of individuals who need this kind of support – for instance a staff or peer mentor volunteer might go with them to their Vocational Rehabilitation or doctor’s appointment. We often provide this kind of support via phone (conference calling), email, as well as in person.

Statewide Plan for Independent Living

Maryland SILC Draft

“The purpose of the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) is to describe how the state’s network of independent living programs and services will meet the independent living needs of persons with disabilities in the state. The plan must address how federal, state and other funds will be used within the state to develop and maintain an IL program. Please assist us in this process and make your voices heard. Join us at one or more of our virtual public hearing sites to review and comment on the SPIL. For more meeting details and to request reasonable accommodations call or email Denise Thomas, MSILC Executive Director@ 240-599-7965, marylandsilc@gmail.com
