SMCIL’s 25th Anniversary Gala

SMCIL wishes to thank everyone who attended our 25th Anniversary Gala. Your participation made it a special night of celebration. Thank you to the Board of Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, the Board of Commissioners of Charles County and the Board of Commissioners of Calvert County for the Proclamations awarded to SMCIL recognizing our 25 Years of Service to people living with disabilities in Southern Maryland and their families. Congratulations to SMCIL’s 4 Service in Excellence Awardees: Julie Randall, Christina Bishop, Sandra Dent, and Jerry Taylor. The four of you have helped to shape SMCIL and those of us who continue to work SMCIL’s mission to empower individuals living with disabilities. We truly appreciate all the love and support poured on us during and after the Gala. We hope you will enjoy some photos from our celebration!

2024 SMCIL Adapted Sailing Adventure with CRAB

SMCIL was able to host another adapted sail adventure this summer. On June 19th, SMCIL Staff transported a group of Consumers (pictured above) to Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) in Annapolis where we enjoyed a 2-hour interactive sail on the Chesapeake Bay. Afterwards, we boarded SMCIL’s bus and enjoyed lunch from Panera at Quiet Waters Park. Check back often for future opportunities to participate in these unique adapted social outings.

SMCIL Sails with CRAB

SMCIL hosted 2 successful outings with Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB). CRAB is the premier provider of unrestricted access to the Chesapeake Bay. CRAB’s vision of full inclusion is rooted in a deep commitment to increasing recreational opportunities for people with disabilities on the Chesapeake Bay. This effort is driven by the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to access the largest natural estuary in the nation and that personal growth and shared community experiences are essential to higher quality of life for everyone within our community.
SMCIL transported 2 groups to CRAB via our bus in July and September. The Consumers enjoyed participating in the 2-hour interactive sail aboard six (6) of CRAB’s adapted Beneteau First 22A sailboats designed specifically for accessibility. After the morning sail, everyone boarded SMCIL’s bus and went to Quiet Waters park to enjoy a boxed lunch provided by Apple Spice Junction.

Grand Reopening Celebration

SMCIL’s Staff and Board of Directors celebrated our Grand Reopening on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. We are so thankful that so many people from our community – Consumers, Partner agencies, Veterans, etc. – took time out of the day to visit us and share in our momentous occasion. As we are proud of this new beginning for SMCIL, we hope our community is too and will continue to support us. We hope you enjoy these photos from the celebration and the video we debuted at the event sharing how SMCIL has grown over the years and blossomed into our refreshing new corporate brand and identity!
